Crowns in One Appointment With CEREC

We recently invested in a technology that will allow us to do restorations, like crowns and veneers, in one appointment. The tech is called CEREC, and it stands for Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics or Ceramic REConstruction.

The machine itself uses 3D CAD/CAM technology. CAD/CAM stands for computer-aided design and computer-aided technology. So, with the help of a computer, we can make a crown in a single visit. We used to do restorations in 2 appointments. We would prepare the tooth, place a temporary crown and set a second appointment to place the permanent crown. This was because we would always have to send out to get the permanent crown created.

With the help of CEREC, we can collect digital images of your teeth using an intraoral camera, and upload them to a computer which then creates a 3D model of your mouth. (No more messy and uncomfortable mouth molds.) Dr. Mann will then design your crown on the computer before placing a solid block of ceramic into the machine. The machine then shapes the ceramic into a crown or veneer exactly how it was designed. The CEREC machine uses diamond cutting tools and lots of water throughout the process. The time it takes for the machine to produce a crown is about 15 minutes. It’s pretty amazing to watch, and the final product is outstanding.

If your restoration case can be completed using CEREC, you can now take advantage of this amazing technology right here at Mann Family Dental.
