Getting to know your dentist

Dr. Russell D. Mann, DDS
University of Texas Dental Branch at Houston
CDOCS mentor and visiting faculty
Licensed for moderate IV sedation in New Hampshire
Dr. Mann knows that calling a dentist can take real courage, which is why he gives every new patient time to share their story before the exam begins. He didn’t have dental care growing up, worked in hospitals and nursing homes through school, and followed his older brother into dentistry at the University of Texas Dental Branch in Houston. He has kept adding to what he knows ever since — taking far more continuing education than required, training with oral surgeon Dr. Michael Pikos, and becoming a CDOCS mentor and visiting faculty member who helps other dentists learn digital dentistry.
The work he loves most is full-mouth care and same-day smile makeovers, because they give people hope: “If you can just give people some hope that there is a solution for them, I think that’s very, very important.” Away from the office, he tends the reef aquarium in our lobby, travels the world, cheers on the Boston Celtics and spends time with his dogs. “I don’t need to work, but I love to work,” he says.
Caring for you from the first phone call

Kara St. Pierre, RDH
If cleanings have ever made you tense, you’ll be glad to meet Kara: she’s been a registered dental hygienist since 2010, joined our team in 2020, and is certified to provide local anesthesia, nitrous oxide and laser care, so she can keep you comfortable through every step. Dr. Mann relies on her to stay up on “the latest trends in oral health and hygiene,” from the best toothbrush for you to the right kind of floss.

Sadé Cruz, EFDA
Feeling in good hands matters most when you’re in the chair, and Sadé brings more than 15 years in dentistry to every appointment. As an expanded function dental assistant, a dental assistant with advanced training to place fillings, she places your filling once Dr. Mann has prepared the tooth, so two experienced people work side by side on your care and your visit moves along smoothly.
Nicole, Registered Dental Assistant
It’s reassuring to know someone is thinking about you after you leave, and that’s Nicole: she joined our team in 2023, and after a patient has a tooth taken out, she’ll often pick up the phone just to check on how they’re feeling. Patients often mention how well she listens, and she shares what you’ve told her with Dr. Mann before he comes in, so you never have to repeat your story.

Gwen, Lead Administrative
Your first phone call sets the tone for everything that follows, and most of the time it’s Gwen you’ll talk to. She joined our team in 2024 as our administrative lead, and she’s the one who helps you book, answers your questions, checks you in and greets you by name when you walk in — and she’ll likely be the first to tell you, “you’re going to love it here.”
Answering the questions patients ask most
When you’re wondering about something — whether an implant is right for you, what sedation feels like, or how to care for a new crown — chances are someone has already asked Dr. Mann in the chair, and these articles share his answers in plain, friendly words.
